Bannerette

Our bannerette refers to the impressive Loreley Rock, which is situated on the territory of our club. A lot of tourists come from all over the world to see this famous landmark.

Wimpel Loreley RockThe rock is some 130 meters above the River Rhine, which is only 102 meters wide here. In former times this narrow passage was very dangerous for sailors, who had to struggle with river's current, the whirls and the rocks below the water line.

The name "Loreley" is built out of the ancient words "luren" (=watch out for something) and "Ley" (=slate rock). Indeed, the Loreley is a rock which offers a phantastic view.

The legend tells that Loreley was a girl who fell in love with the nearby Count of Katzenelnbogen. But he had to marry a girl of noble birth. When he did so, Loreley had sworn to take revenge on every man and drown him in the river.

The banner was designed by our friend Dieter Weber, Kaub.
